Teaching

As one of Ireland's leading specialists in historical performance, Claire Duff has played a significant role in the development of Baroque performance and education in Ireland. She teaches Baroque violin and historical performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, where she directs the RIAM Baroque Orchestra, coaches the Baroque Opera Orchestra and chamber ensembles, and teaches students at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

An experienced and sought-after educator, she has been invited to give masterclasses, lectures and workshops throughout Ireland and the UK at institutions including the Royal College of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, TU Dublin Conservatoire, the University of Limerick, and Cork School of Music, as well as for the Irish Baroque Orchestra and The English Concert. Students from Ireland, Europe, Asia, and North and South America have studied with her, specialising in Baroque violin or combining it with modern violin studies.

Claire encourages students to engage critically with historical sources, make informed musical choices, and cultivate their own distinctive artistic voice.

She studied Baroque violin with Monica Huggett and Pavlo Beznosiuk at the Royal Academy of Music, London, and baroque and classical violin with Lucy van Dael at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
